STABLE ISOTOPE ANALYSIS LABORATORY
The Stable Isotope Analysis Laboratory is a laboratory that has been developed under the 11th Malaysia Plan “Rolling Plan 4” project to enhance stable isotope analysis capabilities for services and studies involving the traceability and authentication system of the country's strategic agricultural products. The laboratory is equipped with the latest equipment for processing, weighing and analysis of samples of food and agricultural products. A high precision semi-microbalance is one of the important equipment for sample processing which is capable of sample weighing with a microgram scale. In addition, there is also freeze dryer that is used for drying samples at low temperatures without compromising the quality of the samples.
The main analyzer in this laboratory is the "Gas Chromatography Elemental Analyzer Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer" (GC-EA-IRMS) which is capable of performing analysis for the determination of stable isotope ratios for bulk sample and also the specific of compounds in the samples. In addition, the other main analyzer available in this laboratory is laser spectroscopy which is used for the analysis of greenhouse gases for stable isotope samples such as methane, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide, ammonia and others. The present of high-tech equipment allows to provide accurate and precise results in the Stable Isotope Analysis Laboratory. Besides, it is expected to provide stable isotope analysis services for government and private agencies in ensuring the quality, safety and sustainability of national agro-food products.
