Malaysian Nuclear Agency Strengthens Role at ICARST 2025 Conference

Vienna, Austria – The Third International Conference on Application of Radiation Science and Technology (ICARST 2025) was successfully held from 7 to 11 April 2025 at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters. This prestigious conference served as a platform for sharing the latest developments in radiation science and technology, bringing together scientists, innovators, and representatives from the global nuclear science and technology community.

Dr. Noraishah Othman is one of the panels for the Equal Opportunities in Radiation Science and Technologies Session.

ICARST 2025 marked the largest edition of the conference to date, attracting 499 in-person attendees, 367 virtual participants, and 120 additional officials, including exhibitors, embassy representatives, and IAEA technical staff. Among the key topics discussed were the challenges in developing new pilot plants for radiation processing, community engagement for environmental protection and waste treatment, non-destructive testing (NDT) services, the conservation of historical artefacts, plastic reprocessing initiatives and the use of tracer and source-based technologies in industrial processes.

Poster Presentations

The Malaysian Nuclear Agency (Nuklear Malaysia) proudly contributed to the success of ICARST 2025 with the active participation of 13 officers who were invited by the IAEA to take on various roles. These included delivering oral and poster presentations, chairing sessions, participating in discussion forums, and serving as jurors for the Young Professionals Award. Nuklear Malaysia personnel were also featured in several special segment panels, including Dr. Noraishah Othman - Equal Opportunities in Radiation Science and Technologies, Dr. Ting Teo Ming - Spotlight on the NUTEC Plastics, Dr. Ilham Mukriz Zainal Abidin - Enhancing Global Collaboration in NDT, Dr. Mohd Amirul Syafiq Mohd Yunos - Radiotracer and Sealed Sources Certification for Industrial Excellence for Disaster Recovery Enhancement, Pn. Nadira Kamarudin - Radiation-Based Technology for Preservation of Cultural Heritage Objects, and Pn. Ruzalina Baharin - Flagship Initiatives, Success Stories & Future Perspectives.

In addition to these engagements, Nuklear Malaysia showcased its national and regional contributions to non-destructive testing through an exhibition booth, highlighting advancements and services in the field. The active participation of Nuklear Malaysia at ICARST 2025 not only reflects the agency's technical expertise and growing influence in radiation applications but also reinforces Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation. The conference provided a valuable platform to explore strategic collaborations, aligning with national efforts to support sustainable development through safe, responsible, and innovative nuclear technology.
