There are 3 subprojects under this activity namely development of concrete/boron particles as radiation shielding materials, development of composites for neutron shielding applications and Irradiation and damage study on materials under radiation exposure. The aim of these projects is to produce radiation shielding materials with better mechanical properties for reactor nuclear. The radiation absorption capability of concrete/boron and composites/boron is defined by determination of the attenuation coefficient beside mechanical and physical characteristics.
Project on “irradiation and damage study on materials under radiation exposure” is to investigate radiation damage to reactor materials and components. The objective of this project is to determine property of materials changed by irradiation: dimensions, mechanical properties (strength, ductility), physical and thermal properties by means analysed irradiation-induced precipitation, displacement per atom and embrittlement of the materials. Studies at the atomic scale, defect clusters and alterations in structure analysis including effects of radiation at high temperature by chemical analysis, phase identification, thermal characterisation and mechanical characterisation. |
