Computed tomography (CT) is a powerful non destructive evaluation (NDE) technique for producing two-dimensional cross-sectional images of an object without physically sectioning it. Characteristics of the internal structure of an object such as dimensions, shape, internal defects, density & component distribution are readily available from a CT scan.
Extensively used in the medical field, CT is now gaining momentum in the industrial field. The range of applications are extensive and covers the oil & gas, power generation, aerospace, automotive, construction, health and agricultural industry.
TomoMINT, a second generation CT scanner using gamma radiation transmission, is currently under development. Tomographs of wood, metal blade, concrete slabs etc. have been successfully obtained and the PAT group plans to develop a third generation CT scanner in the future.
